Heinrich Finger
« on: Sunday 24 January 21 11:08 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am looking for any information on Heinrich Finger also known as Henry Finger,
Born 10 May 1842 in Hessen Germany.
Died 24 Apr 1910 in Sandy Creek Brisbane Qld.

What I am lacking is any information on his Parents and their parents.  I have his 2 wives and children.
Also if he had any siblings.
He was my GG Granfather. I realise that because of WW2 German records can be extreamly hard to obtain and I feel the information I have is incorrect.

Thankyou

Alistair

Thankyou, but what I don't understand is why I can't find Helen Recca anywhere and Both her and Bernard Finger birth dates, nor arrival to Australia of Heinrich Finger.  Maybe they arrived by spaceship. lol

Hi,  nope, not a space ship..... even in that era there were public health regulations and quarantine facilities.

The Qld State Archives have never claimed to hold manifests for all the passenger arrivals.  But in the past they have mentioned that back in the late 19th century, one of the floods for which Brisbane is renown took out various historical records.

ADD  I have just been informed by a family history buff that it was the 1893 floods that made many archives so sodden they were pulp...,

On 1 Jun 1861 Heinrich Finger, 20Y would have left Germany via Hamburg on the “Gras(s)brook” and had Moreton Bay as his destination. I can’t see an Australian passenger list for him, but he can be found in the Hamburg passenger lists: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSZ1-N98X-V  (He’s at the bottom of the right hand page)

The village Wangershausen (most likely in Kreis Frankenberg Hessen-Nassau, Preussen) is named in some spots as his birth place, but unfortunately this place might have been too small to have its own parish church, so you would need to look at nearby towns. It would be very useful if you knew his religion as that would narrow down your search substantially.

FYI
The article in reply#4 mentions a Daniel and there is a Daniel Finger, 18Y from Wangershausen who departs Hamburg on 15 May 1863. Ships name is La Rochelle and destination is Moreton Bay. Hamburg pas list: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-89GZ-19XB-R (right)
There is also a Conrad Finger, 19Y from Wangershausen who departs Hamburg on 22 Oct 1864. Ships name is Beausite and destination is again Moreton Bay. Hamburg pas list: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSZ1-JFVG  (left)

Update:
Another possible relative who originated from from “Roeddenau” (This is most likely Röddenau in Kreis Frankenberg Hessen-Nassau, Preussen and abt 6km from Wangershausen):
Justus Finger, 19Y who departs Hamburg on 5 May 1860. Ships name is Sophie and this time the destination is Sydney. Hamburg pas list: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSZ1-N9XY-Y
