William Britton in the 39 Register
« on: Tuesday 26 January 21 12:18 GMT (UK) »
I've been unable to find William Britton (1864–1954) in the 1939 Register. Can you help please?

In 1911 he lived at 4 Moravian Rd, Kingswood, Bristol with his wife Sarah Jane and 5 children.  Occupation - Bootmaker.

Sarah Jane died in 1935.

The only possible entry I found in 1939 looks wrong - William G Britton, listed as single, not widower, (b. 23 May 1864, retired butcher at 44 Chiphouse Road, Kingswood with E, J & E Pearse).

You will find the William who died in 1954 with his family in 1911.  The administrator of his estate was Eda PEARSE who I believe was his sister.

You need to first find the correct death for your William.

Agree with Dundee.

This is the 1871 census for William G Britton and Eda Britton. Their father was George. The marriage cert. for your William to Sarah Jane Pratten names his father as Thomas, a collier.

The 1916 death had a coroner and inquest held at Keynsham  police court.
Mr William Britton was found dead in a ditch at Stidham.

Thank you all for your help. My William is the one married to Sarah Jane Pratten (father Thomas).

I think I may have his date of death wrong, possibly he didn't make it to 1939 and could be the man in the ditch.

His son Ernest Britton was born 18 Aug 1891 in Kingswood, Bristol, Glos. He's with parents William & Sarah in 1901 in Moravian Rd, Kingswood. He married Hannah Thompson on 25 Dec 1912 (residence at time: Barton St., Bristol; a Collier) but I can't find him in the 1911 census. Can you help please?
