William Lovecraft b circa 1702
« on: Wednesday 27 January 21 11:12 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, I'm trying to find anything I can about my 7xGreat grandfather.

I believe he was born about 1702 in Broadhempston.

He married Mary Cole in Ipplepen on 12th May 1724.

I believe they had at least three children. William 1725, Mary (my 6xGGrandmother) and Richard 1733.

I cannot find anything on Ancestry beside the baptisms for the two male children.

Thanks in advance,
Richard.

I think you will find that the marriage to Mary COLE (by Banns) took place in Broadhempston, not Ipplepen.
Have you seen the transcriptions provided here: https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/DEV/Broadhempston/PRs

There apparently has been some research into the LOVECRAFT family as evidenced by the following book listings shown on the GenUKI Broadhempston page:
Docherty, C.J., Langley Searles, A. and Faig jnr., Kenneth W. Lovecraft of Devon, Kenneth W. Faig jnr., 2311 Swainwood Drive, Glenview IL 6025-2741, USA (2003). [DFHS Library] [Lovecraft family of Woodleand/Broadhempston area]
It looks as though a copy of this research is in the Devon FHS library, so you could try contacting them.

I've checked the baptism of that baptism of John Lovecraft on Ancestry and it shows his mother as Alice rather than Mary. Also his birth/baptism is a bit too close to William to have the same mother. Maybe there were two William Lovecrafts active in Broadhempston at the same time...

I take your point about the date of John's baptism but it could  have been delayed.  From the image I read it as Mary but unfortunately I can't post a clip on here. Not important though as not a direct ancestor. Also he was buried the next February.
