Perthshire Militia List, Blair Atholl 1804-05

This Militia List (1804-05), contains the names of married militia-men from the area around Blair Atholl, their wives, number of children and place of residence.

We found the following entry helpful:

Ritchie, George;    Robertson, Janet;   3 children;   Res: Mualich;   Capt. Chas. Stewart's Shierglas Co.

a) This confirms that George Ritchie in Mualich-more married Janet Robertson, his second wife.

b) As the couple married in 1803 and their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1804 (and died unmarried in 1890), then the other two children must have been from the former marriage.

c) There were four children from the first marriage: Isabella (1793-1864); George (1796-1850); Margaret (1798 - ?); and John (1800 - ?). So we can now stop looking for Margaret and John as they must have died in childhood.
