Carty Family in and around Wexford
« on: Friday 29 January 21 23:36 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
Im hitting a brick wall with my Family Line
My 2nd G.Grandfather Samuel Carty B.1846 ireland d.1800 new zealand married Mary Sidford

his Parents and brothers sisters are what im trying to correct what i have is below

Richard Carty 1813-1845 married twice first wife. Letitia Godkin 1815-?
children. letita 1837-?. Sarah Ann 1838-?
Richard 2nd marriage.
Susannah Whitty, McComas, Williams? unsure which surname 1806-1867
children. Richard 1842-1917, William 1843-1912, Edward 1845-1845,Samuel 1846-1880(my ggrandfather), Edward 1848-1910, Enoch 1839-?

as you see some dates dont work out understand Susannah could been pregnant with samuel when Richard dies
but how is she pregnant with other children when he passed
Also I have Richard 1813-1845 his parents Christopher Carty and Sarah ?

and Richards brothers sisters as Edward, John, Margaret, Mary, Robert

If anyone could help me solve this I would be very happy I have a photo of 3 large tombs where it says Richard brother Edward and sister Sarah Godkin and her family another mystery is Godkin her middle name or Family name

Hi.
Mr. Richard Carty, Wexford, married Mrs. Susan Williams, of Enniscorthy- July 19, 1839
Susan, widow of the late Richard Carty Esq., of Wexford died in 1867.
Richard Carty died Nov 14th, 1848 rather than 1845.

Godkin is a Surname. Sarah Carty was married to a William Godkin.
The grave contains Richard, his brother Edward died 1858 aged 56 and his son Edward died aged 3 months. Edward died at the residence of his brother in law William Godkin
A grandson of Wiliam Godkin and Sarah Carty was named Edward Carty Godkin

It would be very useful to the rest of us if OP and Culbaire could provide some routine, basic information.

- What were the sources for the posted names and dates? No indication at present.

- Which graveyard is that in the photo?

- any information on occupations, religion and locations?

Finally, this thread should be in the Wexford forum!

Apologies for posting information without giving the source.
The graveyard is Rathaspeck. Information located in Cantwell’s ‘Memorials of the Dead’. Part of the inscription reads that Richard Carty was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Society.
Detail of Richard Carty marrying Mrs Susan William found using Find my Past Newspaper search
27 July 1839 - Warder and Dublin Weekly Mail
Susan’s death and the fact that Edward died at William Godkin’s house also found using Find my Past newspaper search.
Grandson named Edward Carty Godkin found using Irish Genealogy.ie
