Trying to establish great grandmother
« on: Thursday 04 February 21 18:33 GMT (UK) »
My great grandfather was Thomas Quin(n) born 16 November 1860 Grange, Monsea, Tipperary.  He died in 1918 in Tipperary. His children were:
Elizabeth (1883-1957); William (1885-1971); Mary (1887-1961); James (1889-1969) and Ellen (1891-1921)
I think his parents were James Quinn and Eliza Hogan but I cannot firmly establish the name of his wife. I have the name Mary Doran but also the name Mary Fanning.
I believe he was a widower when he died.
His daughter Ellen was my grandmother. She was the wife of Martin Nevin about whom I have already been given much information from you lovely people on Roots Chat.
Can anyone help with the name of his wife or indeed any information regarding him? He was an agricultural labourer and illiterate according to one census return.
Thanks.
Corrigan (Dublin); Terry; Rourke; O'Rourke;Dalton;Ellison;
Nevin; Quin;Long (Cork and USA); Supple ... more to follow no doubt!

Hi

The birth records for all five children of Thomas Quin, list their mother’s maiden name as Doran.  See Ellen’s birth below:-

This is likely the death of Mary Quinn in 1893. Informant was her husband, Thomas Quinn.

Hi,
Thomas was Baptised on the 18th November 1860

Yes Mother was Eliza Hogan and Father James Quinn.
On the death of Thomas's wife, it says address is Ballyanna, it should say Ballyanny.
James and Eliza are in the 1901 Census you will see his signature.

How do I get to this?
James Quinn had a sister called Bridget born c 1858.
Bridget is my Great Grandmother.

Hi all,

I've been searching for my great grandfather for a while. His name was Richard Quinn and he apparently left Ireland as a teenager, ended up in Hereford, England, and apparently, didn't like to talk much about Ireland.

He lists his date of birth of 1871 in Youghal, Co. Tipperary on various UK documents. His wedding certificate lists his father as James Quinn, with occupation of "miner." He was illiterate until meeting my great-grandmother some years later, so who knows if his date of birth is correct or, even, if he changed his name or other details when he left Ireland. Anyway, James Quinn and Eliza Hogan are among my best guesses for who his parents could have been.

I'd be excited to get in touch with those of you who are related to them!

Hi, No sorry, James Quin and Eliza Hogan were north of where your Richard was born.
I also know there wasn't any Richard's born in our family.
BUT,
I have found your Richard's parents, still looking for Richards birth.
James Quinn married in Carrick on Suir in 1866.
I am going to send a Private Message to you, ok.
You need another couple of posts before I can send the PM.

Oh, it's not going to be a marriage in Carrick on Suir. It's Youghal (Youghalarra) in Co. Tipperary, in the Nenagh area. And, he may well have changed his name to Richard when he left Ireland, so that might not be a certain thing.

No, the marriage of his parents was in Carrick on Suir.
I have seen the children's births under Nenagh, in Portroe, which is the same area. Portroe is on the the top road and Youghalarra is down towards the Lough.
