Christina CROXFORD 1837-1891

Trying to find the origins of Christina CROXFORD who died in the Asylum in Wellington in July 1891 aged 54, and who was interred in the Bolton Street Cemetery.

Could she be Christiana DANIEL, born London July 1837, eldest daughter of Joseph Randolph Nott DANIEL and Mary Ann EVANS. Christiana married a George CROXFORD in London in 1862. Can find them together in the 1871 census in London but after that nothing. No children by the look of it either. George may have died Sep qtr 1871.

Most of Christiana's siblings came to Wellington NZ at various times in the 1860s and 1870s, including their widowed mother. JRN Daniel died in London in 1867.

The spelling of the family name appears to switch between 'Daniel' and 'Daniels'....

Found a baptism for a Christiana DANIEL at St Botolph Bishopsgate, London on 16 Aug 1837, d/o Joseph and Mary Ann, born 25 Jul 1837.

Could not get into the GRO website earlier, kept timing out for some reason. Still can't get in.

Suspicion attached to Christina CROXFORD - who was employed as a general servant in the hotel.
Description:   English - about 40 years - 5ft 4" high - dark complexion, hair and eyes.

I think you're on the right track Mckha, with this ^^ one.   

Wouldn't be too concerned that the forename is given as "John"  -  probably a "clerical error" - there were nearly 400 souls on that journey ... and mistakes with names, happened.   

Couldn't see a "John CROXFORD" (or var. spelling) in NZ records - but did find two named "George CROXFORD" ... the Otago-based one I've ruled out.   Which leaves this one >>
