Query reagarding Midland Road Raunds Wellingborough
« on: Sunday 07 February 21 21:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have been looking at the old pictures of Midland Road Raunds Wellingborough also on google maps. I wondered if anyone could tell me if No 9 Midland Road still exists? My grandfather lived there according to the 1911 census, he 8yrs old and the youngest of seven children.

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

According to Google maps it still exists.  Whether the house is in the same format as it was when your grandfather lived in it, you would have to compare the photos/pictures.  You can do a street view on Google maps.

Perhaps another Rootchatter can give you more information on the house.

Hi girl guide
Thank you for your comment 😊
I have looked on google maps and only saw new houses, like a new development. Left me in the middle of the road beside what looked like a building site...I haven’t got any photographs to compare with, I only saw an 1920 view of the street from googling, which led me to this forum. I was hoping someone seeing my query could maybe show me a picture of what the house looked like or what it looks like now. Was just being hopeful someone could help me out 🙁

I live near Raunds. I don't think number 9 exists anymore. If you use Google maps you will find the lower numbers are nearer to High Street Raunds end of Midland Road.

I will see what I can find out. If we weren't in lockdown I would have a ride out there to see.

If you have a look at the neighbouring addresses in the 1911 census you might get a reasonable idea where No 9 was.

There are no numbers on this map unfortunately, but you might find that you can narrow down No 9 using landmarks from the census:

Sorry to say that it looks like a lot of newer builds in that area, though there are some smaller cottages which look older. If you can find the cottages in the 1911 census and see how many rooms they have, then compare with the number of rooms in your grandfather's house, it will give you an idea what sort of house he lived in and you might find something similar still standing.

Thank you all for your advice. I will check out the history fb page and continue with my search. Raunds looks like a nice place from what I can see on maps. I live in Scotland so even with lockdown I’d have a long way to check it out too 😁 stay safe and well everyone
