Henry Ashton

Can anyone please help with this name. Henry Ashton born around 1807 in Halewood I have tried unsuccessfully for some time on various websites to locate the birth of this man. I know he married twice. First to Ann (Lee) and after her death to Sarah Stewart. He was a gardener and appears in several census forms as born in Halewood. On his first marriage the witnesses are Ralph and Margaret Ashton. In the 1841 census there is a Ralph and Margaret Ashton living in Halewood Green, parents John and Elizabeth. I believe this could be his parentage but cannot find proof. There is a Henry Ashton born to a John and Betty Ashton born around the same time in Burtonwood but I believe he died age 29. The Henry I seek died in Southport in the 1880s.                                                                             
Most grateful for any information or pointers in the right direction.

There are a number of Ashton’s born Manchester on freereg but only one Henry below.

Like you I can only see the one baptism and the death of a Henry age 29 in 1837 seems to be a logical fit.
Maybe you could obtain that death certificate - it might help to confirm a connection to the 1808 baptism or not. The GRO reference is Dec Qtr 1837 Warrington Vol 20 Page 493.

Still no trace of a birth record for Henry, I did note the marriage record to Anne Lee on freereg
6 Jul 1828 in Liverpool, both single both of the parish. Henry was noted as a Carter at that time.

I note his subsequent remarriage, census records  and death in 1887.

I could not find the 1841 census you mentioned but the following information may help others.

I can walk to Halewood in 15 minutes - but - on the far side of Halewood is St Nicholas Church - I have been before to look for headstones .
 you say Henry died in Southport - a long way from Halewood in those days ..if you find the parents of Henry let me know - Austin Ashton - born around 1890 - he had 5 sons - 800 metres  from where I live ...all in their 70's /80's now but still alive - MOST Halewood residents were baptised / married or buried ast St Marys church Hale in those days

Henry left a will. Perhaps he mentioned his relatives. Executor seems to have been his son John.

Will copies are cheap these days, though delivery may be slow.

ColC: The details you have posted are what I believe to be his family. Margaret and Ralph sister and brother and John Ashton and Elizabeth Lyon his parents. It is only proof of Henry's birth and relationship that is elusive.
Garstonite: Henry was a gardener and with his second wife he lived as far north as the Lake District and finally settled in Southport. The offspring from his first marriage settled in the Park Road area of Liverpool and I can document most of them quite easily. St Nicholas in Halewood was not built at the time I am looking at for Henry so most baptisms are likely to be Childwall, Huyton, Prescot or even St Wilfs in Farnworth.
