Presumably because you are looking for a father of this person whose mother is Esther Hessian  :)

Joseph James Merry Hessian was born in 1855, but there is NO fathers name.

Joseph Hessian married Sarah Jane Bennett in Newport Pagnell 25th December 1879.
To throw a spanner in the works he does list a father........WILLIAM Hessian.

So not Dennis or even James as in James Hedges who mother Esther married. Maybe said William as the was the name of Sarah Janes  father.

Hi Rosie99

Absolutely right !   Esther is my GG grandmother.  and Joseph James Merry Hessian my Great Grandfather.  I have pretty well established that Esthers husband, Denis Hessian went to Corfu in 1853 with the 48th Regiment.   So hes not Joseph's father as the regiment went to the Crimea straight from Corfu.  I will get the muster rolls when I can, but I'm pretty sure he's not around.
So yes, I'm looking for Joseph's father !!

Let me throw this out there.....

The barracks at Weedon have various regiments in and out during this time a lot of soldiers married in the local church......so I wonder if a soldier....So I looked for a William Merry...

1851   William Merry aged 21 corporal 2nd battalion grenadier guards at the barracks at Winchester.
He was listed as born Staple Claydon.....which is Steeple Clayton in Bucks.

Not proving anything but we may never know.

Hi Tazzie

OHHHH  I think I have the mariage details of Joseph and Sarah Jane, but not the full certificate so thank you !!

Yes, Sarah's father was William Bennett.  And Joseph's mother, Esther, her father was William Shaw.

Could he have been able to do this with no questions asked ?

As always, many thanks  Michael

There would have been no checking of the information given by the Bride or Groom,  Fathers names on marriage are not always reliable and in the case of illegitimacy often made up.

Hi....

No proof needed for names ... Or even if alive or deceased that's a common problem. Yes of William from grandfather.

Tazzie,  you are a star!

William and Merry   I'm thinking too much of a coincidence !

I will see if I can find out where he was in mid 1854.

as always, thank you.
