I tried to reply to Milliepede, Rosie99 and Radcliff but I think the info did not upload for some reason, so I am repeating the post.
Thank you ever so much for your very useful info.
I have the 1841 census info, but the page has what I think are "ditto" signs alongside all the names on the column for "born in County" (Lancashire). This does not agree with what James Gregson (witness at JG and Elizabeth Calvert's wedding 10 Sep 1822) signed. There was an addition to one of the 3 allegation certificates for the wedding. (I got copies from Cheshire Records Office) JG signed under the handwritten words, "He believes the Register of the Baptism of the said John Gregson is not in England, because he has been informed, I believe that the said John Gregson was not born in England."
JG and EG (Betty) had 3 children - Edmund Calvert Gregson b 1824 (I suspect the names are from his mother's (Betty) family in Balderstone. Edward b 1825 and Betsy Ann 1826. Edward was noted as being 15 in the 1841 census, but I cannot read his occupation - "Cotton xxxxx". Any thoughts on his occupation and his future life? Also I cannot find his birth/baptism info.
In the 1841 census Edmund Calvert Gregson who would have been 17 yrs old, was not living with the family. Where was he?
Radcliff - the Lawrence and Hannah info is very interesting. At Lawrence's marriage (1838) with Mary Kay he was noted as being full age. I guess this means more than 21 yrs old. So he was born before 1817 but where? Likewise Hannah (of Witton - interestingly) married in 1840 was possibly born in 1819. What happened to their mother - how, when and where did she die? John Gregson (poss father) and his 2nd bride Elizabeth (Betty) Calvert lived in Witton at the time of their marriage.
As an aside Elizabeth (Betty) was the youngest of her family in Balderstone, and so I suspect she had to look after her aging parents. She was 39 and a spinster when she married - quite old at the time. Her father had died a short time before. Surprisingly. she went on to produce 3 children.
Radcliff - partnership disolved 1843 - Edward would have been 18ish - a bit young? and Lawrence 26ish?
