Has anyone requested a service record since Covid19 arrived?
« on: Friday 12 February 21 18:00 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Has anyone on here applied for a service record in the last year?  I sent off for my mother's army service record (WWII) in June 2020, I expected a long delay.  The cheque I enclosed will now be out of date and I had no acknowledgement.
I could send again but don't want two applications to be processed.  I'm wondering if they will get in touch at some point and ask me to send a new cheque or if it was lost in the post and never arrived.
Can anyone tell me whether that department has been working in the last year?
Mary

There is a lengthy post on here about this, I just can't find it at the moment  :).  They are working and there is a long delay.  Apparently there is no need to worry about the cheque, they do not go out of date.

Cheques are only valid for six months from the date on them.  I'll have a search and see if I can find that other post.  Thank you.

Apparently it can be at the discretion of the bank as some people on the threads are still getting records without replacing supposedly out of date cheques.  I am sure that they will contact you if they need it replaced.  There is a longer thread than that one you found somewhere on here ;D   ;D

I'm sure it will be fine. Waiting time for service records is often quite long so they must deal with 'old' cheques all the time.  :)

You may receive a courtesy letter telling you that there is a long delay and asking you if you wish to keep waiting, but as far as I am aware there is no correspondence informing you of the progress of your application. One day the service record will just arrive in the mail.
