Edwin Ingham Pitts (1876-1939)
« on: Saturday 13 February 21 20:14 GMT (UK) »
In the 1911 census taken at High View,Victoria Hill Road, Hextable,Swanley Junction, Kent Edwin was a nurseryman in partnership with Claude Fowler Camburn (a nurseryman) with two domestic servants. Edwin later married Nora Susan Jex(1881-1969) and with her had the following deceased children (1) Thomas Ingham Pitts(1916-1996) and (2) Crena Pitts.

Im interested in the following;
1) any photos of Edwin
2) Edwin's place of residence and occupation from the 1901 census
3) Edwins place of residence and occupation for any year after 1911
4) Any military record for Edwin
5) any information or photos about the Pitts/Camburn nursery in Hextable,Swanley Junction

Just to note the housekeeper from 1911 is actually his maternal aunt. She's with the family in 1881 & 1891

The other gentleman in the household in 1911 is not a servant but a boarder, occupation articled clerk

Note down as Ingman Pitts in 1922 trade directory as nurseryman.

Actually probate entry is also Ingman not Ingham and the marriage.

Thank you all for the great information you provided. Does the probate record for Edwin say what his occupation was and the value of his estate?

I would think because of Edwin's age at the start of WW1 that there should be a military record for him as I did find military records (medal index card)for Claude F. Camburn (his partner) who was the same age as Edwin.

From the 1922 directory you gave Edwin as a nurseryman- where was he living at that time- in Hextable, Swanley?

Can you find any directory listings for Claude Fowler Camburn (1875-1945). In 1911 census he was with Edwin as a nurseryman in Hextable, Swanley Junction and when he enlisted in the army in 1916 he was listed as a market grower and entered the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. He married in 1926 Maude Evelyn Doyle (1876-1941) in Yorkshire (where his wife lived at the time of the marriage). In 1941 he and his wife were living at Hull,98 Firehall Road, Hawley (near Dartford, Kent). Claude died Oct 26,1945 at the Torbay Hospital, Torquay Devon but his residence was given in probate records as 98 Firehall Rd, Hawley.
