Durham Marriage Bond Card Index on FamilySearch
« on: Sunday 14 February 21 12:03 GMT (UK) »
A useful online resource on familysearch.org for Durham Marriage Bonds.

Search in the Catalog with keywords “Durham Marriage Bond” and check the online box.  Top of the list is Durham Marriage Bond Card Index 1590-1815.  The index is arranged alphabetically, you will need to browse through the images once you've chosen the appropriate film.  I have just found two useful ones.

Thanks tillypeg :-)

any help to track down a licence is 'very' welcome here. Though, depending on the time frame (if the rough date is already known) the calendar is also useful.

So, your next assignment, should you wish to accept it, <g>

is to discover which sofa at the LDS the 1789 scans of the licences , have disappeared down the back of when they went from Palace Green to the LDS.

That is the one I am currently looking for, 1789 is conspicuous by its absence in the list here

and last time I was looking for one for this year, though Palace Green assure me that the LDS 'did' have the scans I had to purchase a copy from the Palace Green special collections at a cost of £10.

I am not complaining about the price (well, not much) but having asked the LDS if they could look and see why this year (and others) aren't in the database I didn't get a reply.

 ;D ;D ;D

Boo, perhaps there is another sofa somewhere, or an old cupboard in a vestry, that holds the missing parish register/s for St Augustine, Kirby/Kirkby in Cleveland (Jan 1707 to March 1731).... (sigh)  If only we could have a good old firkle down the back.

The LDS managed to get this info from somewhere:

a marriage at K in C for Thomas Williamson & Elizabeth Peart 10 June 1710
a baptism at K in C for Sarah Williamson 27 May 1711 dau of Thomas

these don't appear anywhere else.  ??? The North Yorkshire County Record Office have confirmed that the register covering that period is missing, presumed lost long ago.

Signed,
A frustrated Tilly, who won't make up the missing info as "some people" have done on their Ancestry trees, for this particular line.  I prefer a dead stop on my Williamson line rather than a fabrication, just to get back another generation.  Rant over (for today anyway ;))

Hi Tilly

apart from quite a bit of fluff, a polo mint and an old threepenny bit, I found the following behind the tatty blue sofa in one of the back rooms.

The records say they were transcribed from film 919065 which says the info came from the Bishop's transcripts, rather than the original Parish Register , not sure who holds those (this parish is out of my usual stomping ground)

The FS images can only be seen from an FHC but they are likely to remain closed for some time yet.
