"Disposal of Men Under Age"?
« on: Monday 15 February 21 12:44 GMT (UK) »
Thanks to everyone who has helped me so far in finding out more about my Great Uncle Percy R Fields (Jebber and Jim1 et al - thank you so much!)

I've now found documents relating to him being sent home for being underage - he was 16 when he enlisted but made it as far as possibly Alexandria (?) before he was sent home.  I've attached that.

He re-enlisted later, but appears to have spent most of his time in the UK playing up and receiving punishments for minor misconduct  ::)

Can anyone tell me any more about this please? Did he have to be 18 to see service overseas?

Any insight would be really helpful.

Being sent home was usually prompted by a letter from the family to the C.O.
Although sent home he wasn't discharged but posted to the 2/5th. Essex.
He next went overseas in May 1918 with the MGC.
His re-enlistment service took him past 1920 as he has a 7 digit number.
He may have a service record still at the MOD.

Thank you Jim1! (Again!)

Sent home from Alexandria it seems to say. Knowing my ancestors, I'm surprised my G-Grandmother didn't sail over there and drag him back by his ear'oles herself!

When you look at his record again it falls into place.
Attested in the 5/Beds. Regt
Embodied the same day (4/12/15).
Transferred to the 2/4 Essex. Regt. 1/7/16 This should be the 1/4th. Essex as the 2/4th. had disbanded Dec. 1915.
? depot  31/1/17 This would be the Div. depot where all men coming & going passed through.
This is the day before the disposal letter is dated.

Posted to the 2/5 Essex 10/2/17 Disbanded March 1918 hence the posting to the 4th. Reserve
Posted to the 4/Essex 11/1/18 This would be the 4th. Essex (reserve) as they were still in the UK.
Transferred to the 84th.? TR (poss. Training Reserve) Btn. 20th. TR Bde. 22/2/18
Transferred to the MGC (8 Res. Btn.) 29/3/18
BEF France 12/5/18
Posted to the 41/MGC 14/5/18
Posted to the 46/MGC 15/10/18
Home 19/3/19 He must have re-enlisted after this date or took the Bounty (£25) offered to men already serving
