What happened to Thomas Thorpe Fogden?
« on: Monday 22 February 21 15:41 GMT (UK) »
Thomas Thorpe Fogden was born in Edmonton (Middlesex, England) in 1883, baptised 13 May 1883 in Enfield s/o Frank Fogden and Josephine (nee Lambert). He had two brothers and two siasters who remained in England. The last definite sighting of Thomas was arriving at Ellis Island on the ship Celtic on 27 May 1907. He was single, occupation warehouseman and intended to go to Toronto.
His passage was paid for by his brother. He was going to join a friend: A. Baxter, 257 Spadina Av, Toronto.
There is a possible sighting in 1919 on a passenger list of a troop ship for a S/Sgt  (37082) Tom Fogden (no age recorded) from Canadian Discharge Depot, Buxton, Derbyshire to Halifax Nova Scotia. It records his place of residence as Toronto and his next of kin as his wife.

Can anyone please find Thomas after 1907?

Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge

Just managed to find Canadian WW1 serviceman records, looks like the one on troop ship was born in 1887, so not the one I'm looking for.

He might have lied about his DOB.  Many of the older recruits did this.

I searched the Toronto Directories too 1921 and the only Thomas was a motor mechanic living at 23 Prescott Ave yet he doesn't appear in the 1921 Census.  In fact there is only Fogden's in Canada and only one family in Toronto and his name was Herbert Victor.

I just looked at US and World newspapers on FindMyPast.
There is a snippet (I have no access) dated 1959 from ‘Independent Star News’ - possibly Pasadena US
It looks like a photo and states ‘Thomas Fogden’ of Canada (from left) at their home’
It may be linked to your family. :-\

Just looked at Canada on FindMyPast, shows Thomas Fogden b 1881 in 1911 census and then references one born 1907 in some records so one of them could be the one in Pasadena.

Hi,

I see a few social and business notices about a Thomas G Fogden of W & A Gilbey (Canada).  He lived in Port Credit.  May not be your man.
