Glyntaff Cemetery help please
« on: Sunday 28 February 21 22:08 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I’m just wondering if anyone here has access to the Glyntaff cemetery records and could do a lookup for me please?

My wife and I are looking for an Irene Davies (Family name was Thomas) who we believe was born circa 1928 and may have died in Pontypridd during 1965.

My father in law was adopted as a child and we are trying to find out whether his biological mother, who he never met, is still alive or passed away a long time ago.

I think Irene father was called Bertha Davies but we don't know whether the family are buried in Glantaf Cemetery or one of the other cemeteries in Pontypridd.

Welcome to Rootschat  :D

Here is a link to contact someone at Glyntaff:-

https://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/EN/Resident/BirthsMarriagesandDeaths/Deaths/Cremations.aspx

Was this the death?

Deaths Mar 1965
DAVIES    IRENE    37    PONTYPRIDD    8B   631

Gives a birth year of 1928.

If she was plain Irene and born in Wales this could be her birth.  It's the only one that shows as being the most likely.

Births Sep 1928
Thomas    Irene    Evans    Llandilofawr    11a   1874
Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

I have had a look at the 1939 Register and found an Irene Thomas born 1928 in Pontypridd.  Also shows her married name of Davies.

The birth I found will be incorrect as her birth date falls into the March quarter, so this may be more likely:

Births Mar 1928
Thomas    Irene M    Edwards    Pontypridd    11a   934

This looks like parents marriage:-

Marriages Mar 1922
Edwards    Bertha    Thomas    Pontypridd    11a   827
THOMAS    Llewellyn    Edwards    Pontypridd    11a   827

Bertha & Llewellyn are also mentioned in the 1939.

Hi,

Thanks for the message

We have found information that states that Irene M Davies previously Thomas, had two other children and siblings.

Any idea how we go about finding them? We will arrange to give Glyntaff a call this afternoon.

regards

Robert

There are other siblings for Irene:-

Births Sep 1922
Thomas    Kate E    Edwards    Pontypridd    11a   1152

Births Jun 1924
Thomas    Owen L    Edwards    Pontypridd    11a   1085

Sibling - closed on 1939 then Irene then another closed

Births Jun 1932
Thomas    Harry    Edwards    Pontypridd    11a   804

Two closed siblings.

There are another four closed records which would mean these four are still alive.  There is no way of knowing which ones they are as there are a lot of Thomas/Edwards births in Pontypridd.

I think she may have married in 1948

Marriages Mar 1948

DAVIES    William J    Thomas    Pontypridd    8b   1341
Thomas    Irene M    Davies    Pontypridd    8b   1341

I'm afraid the combination of Davies and Thomas means that it is impossible to know what children she had.

Is there a way of founding out if he is still alive or whether they remained married until she passed away? I am unable to locate much info regarding him.

thanks

With a name like Davies not too surprising!

You have a couple of options.  Obtain Irene's death certificate and see who was the informant and whether there is any address. Try to find any notice in a local paper of her death although there may not be one.  Obtain the marriage certificate to see what William's full names are, his age and the name of his father.  This will also mean that you can check that the Irene is the correct one as her father should be Thomas.

By the way the GRO birth record shows Irene's second name as Myfanwy so that should appear on the marriage certificate as well.

With William's full names and age it may be possible to trace a birth for him.

I'll leave you to decide what you wish to do.  You can get the certificates from the GRO website.
