The Parents of William Gibson, born 1799 in Dunston
« on: Monday 01 March 21 11:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello there,

This above person was one of my 4x great grandad's.

He married Sarah Gash at Branston on the 19th of November 1822.
When he married, William was "of Blankney." The actual date of marriage comes from Findmypast. His residence at marriage comes from Freereg. Sarah Gash was of Branston at marriage. They were both single. -

Branston : All Saints : Register of unspecified type : "Parish Register" database, FreeREG (https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/5ef1a816f493fd4d277709fb : viewed 1 Mar 2021) marriage William Gibson to Sarah Gash 1822

Soon after marriage, they went to live in Waddington.
Daughter Eliza Gibson was baptised there in September 1823.
They then had children: William, Ann, Sarah, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth "Betsy", Charlotte, Emma and John all baptised at Waddington between 1825 - 1844.

Their daughter Margaret was buried in 1833 at Waddington.

In the 1851 census, William was listed as aged 51, an Agricultural Labourer and his birth place put as "Dunston." With wife Sarah. And children: Eliza (then wife of George Bottomley), Ann (then wife of Robert Golland/ Gollands), Mary, Elizabeth (baptised as "Betsey"), Charlotte, Emma and John. Sarah Ann Bottomley, his granddaughter was also in the home. -

William died at Waddington, on the 4th of January 1859. This date comes from page 5 of the Lincolnshire Chronicle, 7th of January 1859. His age on the GRO death index, his obituary, and also burial on the 6th of January 1859 all give him an estimated age at death as being 61.

The only baptism I can find which comes any where near close at all to Dunston, and matches his age and place of birth in the 1851 census is the 20th of October 1799 at Blankney, a son of a William and Sarah Gibson. -

There was also a John Gibson son of a William and Sarah, baptised there on the 21st of July 1798.

I estimate the parents of William to have been William Gibson and Sarah Stott, who were married at Blankney on the 10th of May 1798. This William was "of Dunston" on the register. -

This William Gibson, married in 1798 at Blankney, was buried at Dunston, aged 50, on the 12th of August 1827.

His wife Sarah was still alive at the time of the 1841 census, listed as a widow and living at Dunston.
She was buried at Dunston on the 5th of September 1848.

But the problem I have with William Gibson and Sarah Stott who married in 1798 at Blankney as being parents of my William Gibson, baptised in 1799 at Blankney is this:

There was a "William, son of William & Sarah Gibson" baptised at Dunston on the 10th of February 1805. And he was probably the same "William, son of William & Sarah Gibson," buried there on the 2nd of April 1805.-

So it would seem strange to me if this couple had two children born named William Gibson, baptised 6 years apart from each other, and one baptised while the other was still alive.

But regarding alternative parents for William Gibson born in 1799, I am starting to scratch my head quite a bit. I can't find a burial for a William Gibson in the area between 1799 - 1804 either.

If anyone has any information whatsoever it will be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you very much.  :) ;)
