It is with quite a lot of sadness that I heard about this cyber attack, which has affected this [among many] part of Hackney Council's records. At the moment it looks as if recovery or reconstruction, if possible, will potentially take 3 months plus. They are working on it as best they can. I am interested in the local BMD database, [as opposed to the GRO BMD database], & the copies of the original BMD Certs. These have been affected by the attack, despite electronic copies having been made, by way of backups. My concern is that East London is such an important area for genealogy in the UK, especially in the 1800's & early 1900's. I really hope that recovery of the data is possible, although probably difficult, & wish those working on it, special skill & wisdom.
