Leese Family Help!
« on: Tuesday 02 March 21 14:04 GMT (UK) »
Could anyone please help? I am looking for the parents of Thomas Leese? Looking at baptisms in the area there are several that fit so I hoped to find a sibling to cross-reference with.
On his marriage cert to Ellen Fisher in Caverswall,1824 there is a witness named Ruth Leese (she appears on several Leese Family marriages as a witness) but cannot find a baptism for her  :-[

Can anyone help??

FYI Thomas was born about 1804 in Caverswall

Maybe Leese was her married name so her baptism will be Ruth something else.

Can you find a Leese marriage to a Ruth?  That might lead you to who she was and where she fits in.

On the same page as Thomas and Ellen in the 1841 census, a few doors away is the family of John (born c1801) and Prudence LEESE, and next door to them is William LEESE (born c1771). A possibility for Thomas's family?  :-\

A John LEESE baptised at Bagnall on 4 May 1800 with parents William and Nancy.
A Thomas LEES baptised at Bagnall on 28 Oct 1802 with parents William and Ann.

I realise these are some 7 miles from Caverswall.  :-\

There is a Ruth Leese who married Wm Bullock 4 Oct 1824 at Stoke on Trent, St Peter Ad Vincula.

The signature on her marriage looks to me the same as the one that witnesses Thomas's wedding.  A George Leese witnesses this wedding

She is in Stoke on Trent in 1841

Leese was her maiden name as she is listed as a spinster on her marriage record and unfortunately it doesn't list her father's name  :-[

I looked into Leese marriage records in the area to see whose weddings Ruth witnessed then tried to see who their parents were to see if there were any that matched with Thomas Leese...

This is what I found...

Ruth Leese 1808 - 1847          m. 1824          William Bullock          (witness George Leese)

Harriet Leese 1813 - 1895      m. 1830           Matthew Brassington  (witness Ruth & Wm Bullock)
Baptism record states daughter of Mary leese

John Leese b. 1801                m. 1827           Prudence Own           (witness Ruth & Wm Bullock)
poss baptism states son of Samuel & Mary
poss baptism states son of Edward & Helen

So... (i might be clutching at straws here!)

On Thomas Leese's marriage along with Ruth being a witness, there was a Richard Hand as well.

There is also a marriage of Mary Leese in 1818 to Thomas Wright where the witness was John Hand.

Now a William Leese b. abt 1771 (who i believe is the same William who lived next door to John that was mentioned earlier) mother's maiden name was HAND.

What are you're thoughts on this?
