Emily Moss fro Cold Ashton
« on: Saturday 06 March 21 17:31 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the parents of Emily Moss, this is what I know :-

12th March 1884 Emily married Frederick Milsom at Bitton, Gloucs. she gives her age as 19 and her father's names as John Moss, so born c 1865
The couple then move to Derbyshire
1891 census -Emily is shown as 26 and place of birth as Aston, Wiltshire
1901     "           "           "         35         "           "         Cold Ashton, Gloucs
1911      "           "                    45          "           "            "       "          "
1917 Emily died aged 51
so her date of birth is fairly consistent with 1865/66

The 1881 census shows Emily Moss aged 14 at Pucklechurch which is where Cold Ashton is, she is a servant
I can't find anything for 1871
Cold Ashton is in the Chipping Sodbury registration district and the only birth I can see is of Emily Jane Moss 1865, but her parents are Edward Moss and Jane Rawlings.
Emily didn't have  a second name on her marriage, census or death record.
There is an Emily Moss (no mothers maiden name shown on GRO so presumably out of wedlock)
but that is at Chipping Norton which is more than 30 miles from Chipping Sodbury.
There is a birth of Emily Moss registered in 1866 in Cirencester Wiltshire (following the 1891 census mention of Wiltshire) with a mothers maiden name of HEMS, however I can't find a marriage record anywhere between MOSS and HEMS, so don't know if this was John Moss.

Would appreciate any help or suggestions please

Genuki - Gloucestershire

The National Gazetter of Great Britian and Ireland (1868)

ASTON BLANK (or Cold Aston), a parish in the hundred of Bradley, in the county of Gloucester, 3 miles to the N of Northleach, its post town.  It is situated on the river Windrush, not far from the borders of Oxfordshire and the old Fosse Way.  The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol.  etc. etc.

(Unforunately Gloucestershire BDM doesn't seem to be working at the moment) to check for marriages etc in a Register Office.

Aston Blank, Registration District: Cirencester

Is there an occupation for John Moss on the marriage?

Age isn't right but there is a baptism for an Emily Moss father John 1861 Quenington Glos and this 1871 census Down Ampney Glos

John Moss 49 farm bailiff
Emma 33
Charles 11
Emily 9
Clara 14
Ernest A 11 months

Added sorry don't think that's her, she is still unmarried in 1891  :-\

Thanks Capetown,
Really can't work out how Edward and Jane could be correct parents, but I have given it a fair amount of time

? Were the family Non-Conformists

---

Just to recap - Frederick MILSON - married Emily MOSS, 2 March 1884 - at Bitton

---

Their first child:

Edwin Thomas MILSON - (mother's maiden name: MOSS) - Reg. A/M/J Qtr 1884 -
Registration District: Chipping Sodbury.

Still looking for his baptism.

---

On the 1891 Census, Linton, Derbyshire, Edwin Thos MILSOM - aged  7, born Wiltshire.

FreeReg has his death

at Linton Christ Church - 31 October 1899

Edward Thomas MILSOM aged 15 years.

----

May be going through the children's names of Frederick and Emily - and eliminate Frederick's family names, there should be some of Emily's family names there.

?  The first Son, carries the name Edwin and second name Thomas...  which goes back to the baptism at Cold Aston - father's name: Edwin

The tree on Ancestry - has a copy of the marriage certificate when, Frederick MILSON marries for the second time - in 1919 at the Register Office  in Derbyshire. (his father was Thomas)

Freereg ...

Burial at Linton, Christ Church, 21 April 1917, Emily MILSOM aged 51 years, residence:75 Linton Heath, Linton.
