Florence Emma budge
« on: Sunday 07 March 21 13:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello,  I am looking for any information about Florence Emma Budge born Torpoint , Cornwal in 1868, bapt. 1-1-1870. She was a midwife and I have found her everywhere until 1920, (except 1901 census) BUT then she dosappears. Did she get married? If so, to whom and when ? No date of death.

Thanks for help.

Hi and welcome to RootsChat!

I've not found her death as yet but I do like her spirit! She has described herself as an Old Maid on the 1911. :)

Is this her, Berkshire newspapers, November 1898
PRISONER BEFORE THE MAGISTRATES. At the Maidenhead County Police Court, on Saturday, before General A. Banbury Thompson, Mr E. Gardner, and the Mayor (Mr C. W. Cox)
Florence Emma Budge, of Winkfield, aged 30, described as a nurse, was brought up charged with having, on October 20th, unlawfully taken a quantity of destructive fluid called benzine, with intent thereby to kill herself....

Mark Pizzey involved in the story.

Hello and thank you for this info. I have seen these before thanks and also found her in the midwives roll in 1905 and 1910 in East Angia, 1915 in Kent (Old maid) and 1920 on the Lizard at Ruan Minor in Cornwall. My father vaguely remembered meeting her a a very , very young child about 1920 but after that - no info. I assume that got married at age 50+ as I can't see how she would disappear otherwise. These is no probate. Her two brother, Willian henry( my great grandfather) and Arthur Edwin both doed relatively young at 54 and 62 respectively so I am guessing she would have died before 1940. The search goes on. Thank you.

(taking up duties as parish nurse)
........
The Perfect Skin Cure.

Her ( Nurse Budge's) place will be filled within the next few days.

Thank you all for your kind efforts.

As an update, and using the search phrase "Nurse Budge" in Findnypast Newspaper search, I found her definately in Dundee in 1925 and then a Nurse Budge passing a A.RP. test in 1939. 1925 is 100% her, not sure about the 1939 date though.
It now seems very unlikely that she didn't get married. She would have been 71 in 1939 (if that is her.
Why no death record?

Off to search the 1939 register.

Thanks for your interest.
