I’m researching the parents of Thomas Geen b.1818-1821 Bishops Tawton, near Barnstaple, Devon. He married a Susan Martin and they had numerous children.
In 1841 family are living in Braunton, Barnstaple.
In 1851, 1861 and 1871 they reside in Bideford.
I have found a baptism for a Thomas Geen baptised 8 Dec 1818 in Bishops Tawton, Devon. Father William Geen, Mother Eliz: Film number 916815.
I cannot find William Geen and wife Elizabeth on any census.
An Ancestry tree shows Thomas’s father as William 40 and mother Tomasin 35, with small children living in Barnstaple on the 1841 census. The record states William Geen – ag labourer – residing Braunton. So, the area could be right, but by 1841 Thomas is with wife Susan and young son Thomas and he is 23 years old, so unlikely to be the son of Tomasin aged 35.
It could be that Tomasin is William’s second wife but I can’t find a death record for Elizabeth or a marriage record for either Elizabeth or Tomasin to William Geen.
Can anyone help establish who Thomas Geen’s parents are and find them on the census records? Thanks.
