Ralph Inskip
« on: Sunday 14 March 21 10:12 GMT (UK) »
Morning all, I am researching Ralph Inskip – Ralph Cruickshanks/Crookshanks Inskip, I think they are the same man, there seems to be a conflict of info on here. https://www.cwgc.org/search-results/?Term=Ralph+Inskip+ as far as I know Mary Crawford was his wife.

Ralph lived in South Shields, as far as I can tell his WW1 service was in the Royal Army Medical Corps, he died 21 November 1916.(see above link)
I would be grateful for any more information as to his service/death or any other information on him at all.
Many Thanks.

Thank's Rosie, yes that's what I have. His mother, Mary Jane Cruickshanks married Nicholas Inskip, She died in 1890. I would like to know of his service/death and to settle the conflict of the records.

Ralph Inskip died at no. 34 CCS France.
He was 1 of 5 stretcher bearers wounded on the 15/11/16.
3rd. FA was in the Guards Div.
They were at a place called Dive Copse.
Hope this helps.
Added:
According to the 3rd. Bde. diary there were a number of men
from the Grenadiers & Scots Guards wounded while on trench duty on the 15th.
Your man would have been one of the stretcher bearers sent out to take them to
The nearest ADS.
I would say almost certainly they were hit by shelling while doing this.

Thanks for that jim1, much appreciated.

rosie99 I had missed that they are father and son WW1 + WW2 (which is why I'm not very good at this) in my defence the records I have the father is Ralph Cruickshanks and the son is Ralph. thank you for that.

For what it is worth Dive Copse is the wood in square J 24 b (top right quadrant of the square) on the attached map.

Since discovered that on the 14/11 a section of the 3rd. FA was sent to Bernafay wood &
put under the command of the 9th. FA as the 3rd. Bde. had 2 Btn's. at Guedecourt.
Bernafay wood was closer.
He was part of that section.
The 2 Btn's. being the 4th. GG & 2nd. R.Scots.
Men of these Btn's. were killed/wounded on the 15th.
Sorry MaxD.

New map, Bernafay Wood at bottom east of Montauban

(I did think there had been another move looking at the 3 FA diary)
