Birth discrepancy
« on: Tuesday 16 March 21 22:40 GMT (UK) »
I have just spotted a discrepancy in the birth of my grandfather that I cant believe I missed before.  Robert William Humphreys is shown on his birth certificate as being born at 20 Park Hill Road in Connah's Quay on 20th Sep 1911.  He is also shown on the 1911 census as being one month old and being born in Mold.  The census would suggest he was born in March of that year.  I cant explain the discrepancy.

He is living at that address in 1911.
Was he born in hospital perhaps or a relative’s home? Other family members are born in Mold in the census.
Perhaps there is an error in recording the birth date.

The 1911 says 4 children born, of which one died. 4 children are listed on the census. One of those children may well be dead but listed anyway. Baby Robert aged 1 month might not have been born in 1911 at all. Are we able to account for all of the children?

That all sounds possible.  I will ask my mum tomorrow if she remembers anything that might relate to it.

It wouldn't be the first time I've heard of dead children being added to the 1911 census. The question about children (total/alive/dead) threw a lot of people and they sometimes (helpfully) got muddled.

Have they recorded the deceased Robert with the age he was when he died i.e. 1 month?
