Don't know about ipads, but I usually save the PDF file and then if I really need to print a copy I do it from the saved copy.

Have you ever printed 'anything' from your iPad?

ok just tried it from my OH's iPad.

Open the pdf from the GRO site you see the document on your screen

at the top of the screen there is an icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing upwards
click that
scroll down the pop up menu that appears and choose

print

That opens a new window showing your network printer details and at the top right (in blue) it says Print
Press  that and it prints  out

It might be a silly question but why would you want to print the document?  Why not just save it and refer to it when you need to.

I usually just save things to my computer too, but now and then I do print them out. The most recent time was for an elderly relative who wanted to know about her father's life.

She doesn't have access to a computer or tablet (and her hands are so arthritic she'd probably not be able to use them) but she can read paper documents.

I printed birth, baptism, census, marriage, service, death, burial records etc  to back up the 'timeline story' I did for her.

She loved it :-)

Many reasons why people want to print things, some just like a paper copy, we each work in ways that suit us.

I have problems printing from email on my iPad, I ended up taking a screenshot and printing that from photos.

I’m not sure i shall be much help, but my experience with trying to print with 2 different printers makes me think it could be something to do with what make of printer you have and how it is set up.
I had an Epson and had to download the Epson app to my ipad before i could print, and had to go to the app (rather than the document). I now have an HP and once the document is downloaded i can print directly Using the square with the upward arrow and then selecting the print option as previously said).
Perhaps someone a bit more technical could advise on you checking your printer settings
