Census ‘Occupation’ Lookup please
« on: Wednesday 17 March 21 22:47 GMT (UK) »
Hello again..

I’m trying to establish what type of working people lived in ‘Moorfield Grove, Bolton’ and hoping this can be extracted from the Census records of 1901 & 1911. Im interested in no 40. As I have tried for 38 on a previous request without success. It’s part of a social history project I’m researching. Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards
John

Try 1901

RG13/361/124/19 for  No 39.

They seem to work in the cotton mills.

Note that on the listing that I looked a , Moorfield Grove seemed to only have the odd numbers listed. It could be that the even numbers are on a different listing but I've not found them so far.

It is there on the 1911 but RC doesn't allow us to give details of that census.

I've just had a look at the street on Google map.   The whole length of the terrace houses on that side of the street seem to be small "starter homes" with one bedroom at the front and another at the back, plus very small front garden and small back yard.

A seven minute walk away is the large Atlas Mills, Chorley Old Road, Bolton.

I didn't see the history of the area, whether a company or the council had built the houses.

Many thanks, I suspect they worked at Union Mills which was a lot nearer. I can’t access the link to the 1901 census.

This is No 39 in 1901

You really need to look at he surrounding houses though - i.e. do a virtual walk around. I don't think you can do that without looking at the images. You will need to look at Ancestry, FindMyPast and others to do a real study.
