Stolen Images ?
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 08:44 GMT (UK) »
Has anybody had one of their images stolen and done anything about it?
If so, with what result?

About a week ago I posted a photograph that has been in my family since it was taken about a century ago on a local history website in order to find out more about where it was taken from.
There were several suggestions, than just this morning somebody posted a link from the Getty Images of an identical image except that it was ‘stamped’, for the want of a better term, as being copyright.

So It's likely to be out of copyright anyway? (by dint of it's age)

I don't think you can claim copyright.
Next time watermark the digital image before relesing into the wild.

It strikes me that this image may have been harvested by a bot by some organisation that is driven by a chance of profit where none is due. If this is true, I want to do all within my power to make them stop.

Why ? We all know that when anything gets on the web it is up for grabs.  The only safe way is to keep things to yourself, or email them to trusted contacts.

Why?

To learn of things and find evidence to support theories in order to add substance to something that is no more than a myth or figment of my imagination.

I think the more central figure with the hat and dress on in this picture is probably my GGM

I have learned quite a bit after abt. 15 years of research. Way to go yet.

I’m not sure I am following this properly. Is that the photo you posted elsewhere?
