John Mullaney b c1831/32
« on: Saturday 20 March 21 15:49 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help me definitively locate the birth of John Mullaney born in Roscommon in around 1831/32? Father is also John Mullaney. Moves to England sometime before 1852 where he marries another Irish immigrant Ann Duffy in Stockport, his Father is deceased by this point.

Thanks very much for those. I wish I could be absolutely certain but I'm almost 100% it's the 1832 chap. I know ages and DOB's weren't a priority back then but 1828 seems just a little to early. There's quite a bit of variation in the his age once he moves to England but it always seems to come back to 1832c and not much earlier.

I think the problem is I just can't find that record in the Catholic Parish Registers on the NLI website.

I think the problem is I just can't find that record in the Catholic Parish Registers on the NLI website.

It is 27th June 1832 - hope you can find it. I had to scroll down and I think it is page 96 if you use the slider.
The year is at the top of the page and the months are indicated though.

There is this record which may influence your choice. :-\

As you can see from that baptism the parish is Killucan.

Oh good! My John Mullaney was in Lancashire in 1852 marrying his wife and is a labourer. I think I need to go back and reassess what I've got. Thanks for that info though.

Sorry if I gave you duff information.

I obtained the baptism details from a transcription on RootsIreland, which states the Parish to be Croghan and the date of baptism to be 29 May 1832. Clearly that was wrong, so I will skulk off!

I am pleased you are sorted out though.

Don't worry, I check and recheck as a matter of course. I've gone round and round with this chap and I'm having another go at the moment. I've never been entirely satisfied with him.
I think the most likely candidate for me on the 1851 census is the chap living in Prescot.
