Seeking a Grave and Headstone Location: Rake Lane Cemetery, Wirral.
« on: Sunday 21 March 21 13:17 GMT (UK) »
Good afternoon,

I'm trying to find the burial location in Rake Lane Cemetery, Wallasey, Wirral of my grandparents, but only have approximate dates.

Grandfather: Thomas Cole, date of death unknown but he is entered as deceased on my parents marriage certificate of 1950 and I'm sure they were a single parent family during WW2 so possibly before 1939, he was a Mill-Hand and I believe died at a young age

Grandmother: Surname of Cole, sadly I'm not certain of the forename, but died approx 1960.

The grave may be shared with a third person: John (Jack) Connor, who died approx 1968

Any help in finding the grave or direction to other source of information would be very much appreciated.

Welcome to Rootschat

Were they your maternal or paternal grandparents?

I am assuming both your parents are deceased otherwise you would know your grandmothers name and maiden name.  If both your parents are deceased it is ok to post details about them.  Please give their full names and birthdates.

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

As Carole says, we need a bit more information.   Assuming that your parents are now dead, perhaps you could tell us their names when they married in 1950.  We may therefore be able to look at the 1939 Register to find them and that may lead us to other information.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks so much for looking at this with me ...

They were grandparents on my father's side so 'Paternal'

Both my parents though are now deceased.

My Father (John) Cole was born 13.10.1924 and passed away 24.7.1999

My Mother (Freda) Cole (Maiden Name 'Hunt') was born 25.5.1924 and passed away 11.7.1999

I would only of been around 5 years of age when my grandmother passed away, I didn't want to guess at her name as I thought it may cause confusion if wrong, but my deepest memory believes it may of been (Lily) Cole (Maiden name 'May') but this could be completely wrong and I have no one to confirm with anymore.

Many thanks
Alan

Hello,
From the info you have given here, I believe your Cole & Connor relations are buried in Section 15G Grave 392.
I found this info from this website, and was able to search for a common grave:

John Nicholas Connor married Lilian Victoria Cole in Wallasey in 1943.
Her first marriage to TH Cole was at Liscard St Mary.
From the info just provided, we can see that Lilian Victoria Connor was buried at Wallasey, 16 April 1964. Age 66
Address has been redacted

Many thanks to all for the help and information,

JonW you're correct on all accounts, amazing info, perfectly correct and absolutely my grandfather. I remember being told as a child of their family home at "Rossett-place" being destroyed by a bomb during WW2.
You also struck a distant memory of my grandmothers name which was indeed 'Lillian Mercer' Interesting how time has twisted my memory to "Lily May" but understandable.
Thanks also to yourself and Paul for the grave location and additional information, I will find and take some flowers to my grandparents grave next week and also leave a shilling for "Jack Connor" who always pushed a little change into my hand as a child. It was good to know that he had married 'Lillian' too, thanks for looking that bit deeper

Thank you all so much.
Alan
