Late 17th Century Genealogy
« on: Saturday 27 March 21 13:50 GMT (UK) »
This is a commonplace book I am trying to decipher, and concerns the genealogy of one of my husband's ancestors.
So far I have the following and am struggling with the gaps.  A fresh pair of eyes would be much appreciated.

Christopher Tuthill of Barpoole (Bathpool)
in Dunston parish near
 Taunton, gentl.,  my mother
was youngest child & daughter
to                White of Vurley (Furley)
                                sister of
Rich: child of        in the
parish of Membury near
 Chard & sister to Rich
White of Axminster in
the County Dorsett

I have looked at this several times and come to the conclusion that the one and three-quarter lines between vurly and In ye Parish have been crossed out.

This can be seen, for example, where you have:  ...sister of Rich: child of...

I think this is actually ...sister of Rich: White of... and the next word is Ax - the beginning of Axminster.  Then he decided he'd gone wrong somewhere and crossed out back to vurly.

So you have the meaning already.

It certainly looks as if it has been overwritten.  I was hoping that there might be further information there.
Thank you so much for your efforts.  I have the whole book to transcribe and it is fascinating included his imprisonment in Ireland and being entertained on an English ship, giving his information about Cork, and travelling with the fleet to the attack on Cork and its surrender.  Also a recipe for pickled salmon
