Rev William Thompson I, Vicar of
« on: Monday 29 March 21 09:41 BST (UK) »
I hope someone can help it concerns this person.

Rev William Thompson I, Vicar of Westbury This is the info I have on him in my Tree

BIRTH 25 DEC 1576 • Burford, Sherehouse, Shropshire, England
DEATH NOV 1626 • Lancashire, England.

The reason I ask is other trees have different places and different wife’s

I have him as married twice Phillis Elizabeth Canning Westbury, Wiltshire 1580 – 1608 Westbury, Wiltshire,   and the other Elizabeth Shephard Melksham, Wiltshire, 1583 – 1618   Chirton, Wiltshire, which other trees have but with no documents that I can see

Is any of this correct? Thank you.
Please scan photos at 300dpi or higher. Thank you.

That is why I'm asking for help. I haven't been able to find info that fits or make any sense. If I had hair to pull out I would. ;D

That will help a lot.

I have just found this as well, which adds to the fun and games about his history.

CCED has some information of William Thomson at Westbury (I don't think Thompson vs Thomson is important as spelling was pretty flexible then)
Ordained deacon by the Bishop of Salisbury, mentions he has an MA (so should be findable in Alumni Cantab or Alumni Oxon, with luck) 25th July 1592 [this makes a birth date of 1576 problematic]
Ordained priest 5th June 1593 by Bishop of Salisbury
Licensed to preach 6th Jan 1602 Salisbury Diocese
Collation as Vicar of Westbury 10th May 1603
Last reference to him there is 21st October 1622; doesn't mention vacancy due to death, but there is mention of John Rogers becoming vicar on 3rd June 1640.
So William left Westbury between 1622 and 1640, either through a move or death. Worth remembering that some vicars would not have lived and worked in the parish but would have employed a curate.
