Where is Corihallie and Achnivie
« on: Tuesday 30 March 21 09:44 BST (UK) »
I think I have found an entry in the OPR for the marriage of my 3xgreat grandparents, but there are a couple of places that I don't recognise.
Where is Corihallie? Where is Achnivie?
Another question, does anyone else read "under the penalty of twenty pound oats"

Corryhallie (Corrie Hallie) is just South of Dundonnell House.

I would suggest that your "Achnivie" is actually "Achneigie"

Corriehallie is a deer forest up Glen Orrin from Muir of Ord, a rellie of mine used to deliver the mail to the lodge there on horse-back. ;D
Nothing there now except the corrie.

Two Mackenzie's acting as cautioners (Kayshoners) to make sure the wedding comes off.
Looks like Wester Ross for both locations.

I also thought it could read "twenty pounds scots" - but would that not be a horrendous amount of money in 1801?
In 1865, one of their children was paying an annual rent of £4/17s for his croft.

The idea was to prevent frivolous calling of banns, if the wedding was called off the cautioners lost their cash so very much in their interest that the pair go through with it!

So, do you think it reads "twenty pounds scots" or "twenty pounds oats"  ???
