Help & advice please
« on: Wednesday 31 March 21 19:03 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone
I have ancestors from the Wellington & Wombridge Shropshire area. Searching the records there seems to be a lot missing, they are not on my heritage site & for instance.

Mary Cooper 19 April 1795 Wombridge Shropshire England parents Thomas & Ann Cooper found on family search site no problem.

Can’t find her brothers
Samuel Cooper circa 1797

Thomas Cooper Circa 1799 However a kind person on Shropshire family history society found 4 possibles for me including 8 June 1800 Wombridge Shropshire parents Thomas & Ann.

My question is am I missing something are they available on another site or is there some form of records I could buy to carry on my research.

Thank you

possible marriage 11 Dec 1791 in Wrockwardine for Thomas Cooper & Ann Southall, witnesses Joseph Severns(?) & Edward Houlston - he may be the parish clerk as he witnessed all the marriages on the double page.

This is absolutely brilliant my Thomas bapt 1800 married Elizabeth Haglington who’s mother was Catherine On marriage Stephenton but other records Steventon. Wonder if Witness Joseph is Steventon, one to watch out for all helps to prove connections. You also brought up another thing I was going to ask abt witnesses. On most Wellington marriages a John Roden is witness for abt 10 years was wondering why this was.

John Roden may have been the Parish Clerk attending, witnessing and recording the marriages. I have a similar case with a relative in Norfolk who was the Clerk to the Parish.

Hi Washy,
For most ordinary folk, and the main occupation in the countryside in those days was Farm Labourer, it was often just the bride and groom and, perhaps, a family member. Working weeks were at least six days, pay very poor, and there was almost no transport so not easy to arrange for the wider family to attend. The service was probably kept as short as possible as the "happy couple" could not afford to pay much to the vicar for his time !
