Thanks so much for all that information. I'm really interested to see what comes back on his birth and death certificate to see if it verifies that the info here is correct. I had found some of that information already, but you've brought in a few extra sources that corroborate which is positive.
I've done some more searching today and found two newspaper snippets. One which appears to confirm the birth of William Sydney's son Sydney (who would be my great great grandfather -

https://www.newspapers.com/clip/74966338/). He's unlikely to be a member of my direct family but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. Does anyone know if the letters B.A. after his name refer to a Bachelor's degree, or is that referring to something else altogether?
As a side point, before I found out I was wasting time searching in the Wesleyan Methodist Church's archives, I'd already purchased accesss to one of the Wesleyan Periodical collections with the British Online Archive, so if anyone would like anything looked up there over the next month while I have access I'd be happy to do so.
