Anyway I can find out about John Clarke, born Ardvoley 1860?
« on: Saturday 03 April 21 11:31 BST (UK) »
Hi I have a John Clarke that marries Mary Clarke in South Shields, Durham in 1883, he’s in the England census in 1891, 1901 and 1911. Dies in 1914. He says he was born in Ardvoley in 1860, is there anyway I can find him before he moves to England? I can’t see him for certain in the 1881 England census even though I think he might be there as Mary moves there from Ireland before 1871 and she’s only 8 years old then so she must meet him there.

Can anyone help me find a baptism or anything that will help please, I’m not even certain where Ardvoley is as a google search doesn’t give much?

Any help greatly appreciated,

I will order their marriage certificate shortly, but that’s only going to give me fathers name anyway, might help if I have options to narrow down.

Did find a baptism from 1865 on the IGI but John always states 1860 on the censuses so I would think that’s correct. I’m aware registrations don’t start until 1864.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kev.

He wasn't the only Clarke from Ardvoley in South Shields. Have you looked at Patrick Clarke born 1869/70?

Hi, yes, he marries Rose Robinson, he also has the same job as John, so could well be his brother but they aren’t together in England at all.

I think that’s probably the correct Patrick as in the 1891 England census he’s with a James and Nancy Feeney.

His parents say John Clarke and Rose PHEENEY

John Clarke and Rose Feeney also have a Bridget in 1872 in Ardvoley, will see if she’s in England.

As you know, the marriage certificate will give father’s name and occupation but also the witnesses may be connected.

Here is Catherine b 1874

I wonder if this is Rose?

Searches show Ardvoley, Beagh.

Death for Rose - widow of John, Beagh

Of course, none of this might connect to you.  :-\

Certificates but also if you are ever able to do so, baptisms within those two families. They could be sponsors for the children.
If I recall both families have Rose, although Patrick’s wife was Rose also.
