Can anyone help me read John Beckers record? Does it say 'impressionable from 15 or 16 years residence'? If so what would that mean?

Did his wife go in with him or is she just noted as his wife?

and does this mean he was admitted to the workhouse? or just receiving benefits?

I think it is:  Irremoveable from 15 or 16 years residence

My only doubt attaches to the first letter.

It appears to be saying that although he has not qualified for formal settlement in that Union, they can't remove him because of his length of residence.

I don't think your second question can be answered from this clip (but may be wrong).

Ahhh okay... is there any way i could find anymore out about it? and what reasons could there be for him to be was denied help?

They weren't denying him help.  Being irremoveable was a good thing for John and Eliza.

Removal meant being transported to another parish or Union, one in which he did have a settlement.

What type of Register is this?  If it's an Admissions Register then it looks to be that both he and Eliza were admitted.

If so, you should look for their discharges, which sometimes have notes on the circumstances around the discharge.

Ooooh i see! Sorry its the first time I've come across this type of record, I don't get to research workhouse / poor union records much.

The record is 'London, England, Selected Poor Law Removal and Settlement Records, 1698-1930 for John Beckers'

If you go to the record again, the actual volume should be identified in the header area (assuming it's Ancestry).

I have searched the London, England, Workhouse Admission and Discharge Records, 1764-1930 collection on Ancestry.

Nothing is returned for either John or Eliza Beckers.  The reason seems to be that - with the collection in Browse mode - none of the listed volumes for Hackney are earlier than 1867.
