Quaker families in the Dunster area of Somerset
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 15:32 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace the origins of a Virginia 'Hughes' Quaker family, that may have originated from the Dunster / Doniford area. Possible emigration 1640-80. There are number of Hughes/Huyish/Hewes in Dunster from parish records.
Does anyone know if Dunster had a Quaker community or meeting house in the 17th century? Any suggestions gratefully received with thanks.
Philip
Jenkins: Guilden Sutton/Plemonstall, Manley, Bebington: Cheshire. Wales, Hawarden Fl
Hughes/Jenkins pre-1650 north Wales., possibly Anglesey/ or Huyish of Somerset.
Smith: Somerset, North Curry area.
Dawson: Birkenhead, Lancashire, and USA.
Lawton: Birkenhead, Wirral, Staffordshire.
Jones: Flintshire, Flint
Lea/Newnes: Chirk Mill, Penley, Hanmer, Worthenbury
Williams: Llanbeblig/Caernarvon.
Rowland: Llandrygarn, Anglesey.
Brew/Lewney: Isle of Man
Powell/Bennett/Forward/Coram: Somerset/Wellingto

There was-and is- a Meeting House at Minehead-which is near to both Dunster and Doniford

Some info about seventeenth century Quakers in Minehead here:

You are welcome! I used to work in Minehead, and often used the Quaker Meeting House to host community meetings/support groups.
