HMS Hornet 1861
« on: Monday 29 August 05 14:05 BST (UK) »
I have a relative on HMS Hornet in 1861. The only references to HMS Hornet I have found are for later vessels. Does anybody know what type of ship this was and why it was in Aden?

From the description of the enumeration district in 1861:
Royal Navy, Hornet. Number of guns: 17
Captain/Officer Commanding: Lord Elphinstone
At anchor at Aden.
Not much help, is it?

Tanja,

Thanks that's a bit more information then I had.

I can now search Lord Elphonstone and see if I can find anything via his name.
