I'm hoping someone can help with this as I haven't been able to discover further details.

In the 1911 census, Elizabeth Lewis, widow, 50, born Erith, Kent, is listed with two children living of 4 born alive, at 30 Coverdale Rd, Shepherds Bush, Middx, London.

In 1901 she was at 2 Lime Grove, Shepherds Bush, and 1891 at 1 Lime Grove.  Both listed as a widow.

From the 1881 census I found her and John P Lewis (draughtsman, age 42, born London) living at 3 Caxton Rd, Hammersmith, Middx with two children.  Edit: three children.

I found her marriage as Elizabeth Thomas to John Purslow Lewis, but only the civil registration so I only have the year and place, 1872 (Sep quarter) and Forden, Montgomeryshire.

Her first marriage was on 27 Oct 1858 at St Martins in the Field, Middx, and the certificate states the groom was coffee shop keeper Richard Thomas of George Square, Middx (father William Thomas, farmer) and that Elizabeth Mary Wake was of King St, Middx (father Charles Wake, plumber) with witnesses Charles Henry Wake and Caroline Jane Wake (these were her parents).   There are quite a few trade directory entries for Charles Wake in King St, plumber, and sometimes glazier.

I can't find Elizabeth Thomas in the 1861 census, nor in the 1871 census.  Neither can I be sure which of the various Richard Thomas deaths are the right one.

Presumably the Thomas's moved to Montgomeryshire at some point, for her to be marrying there?

I also cannot find any other record for John Purslow Lewis, except for one born 1850, who later stood for local elections so appeared in newspaper archives.

Hope someone can fill in the Montgomeryshire part of this story please.

Thanks.

My mistake, should have said 3 children.  That is their son Cheltenham Wake Lewis, who fortunately seems to be known as Jack, judging by the later census!

Ah, but I have via freeBMD:

Marriages Sep 1872
Lewis    John Purslow        Forden    11b   305

and when I click on 305, I get:
Everall    Martha        Forden    11b   305
Lewis    John Purslow    Forden    11b   305
Purslow    Edward        Forden    11b   305
Thomas    Elizabeth        Forden    11b   305

Must be barking up the wrong tree?  It did seem wrong that all the other records are London and this one in Montgomeryshire.

Double wedding for Purslow brothers?

You can check on FreeBmd the area that Forden covered and it included parts of Shropshire including Worthen.

https://www.ukbmd.org.uk/reg/districts/forden.html

https://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/SAL/Worthen

Baptism 11 March 1856 Worthen, Shropshire for John Purslow son of Edward, miner, and Margreat Lewis of Pennerly. Dob 13 Aug 1850.
Sister Christiana Purslow baptised the same day, her date of birth 25 Dec 1848

1851 census
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGD3-QXW

Edward Purslow could be a cousin, definitely not a brother as his surname isn't Lewis.

Sorry, focussed on Purslow rather than whether it was a given or family name!  D'oh.

The query continues on this thread on the Middx board:
