Ramsay Dickson
« on: Tuesday 13 April 21 13:59 BST (UK) »
has anyone any information about a RAMSAY DICKSON, born in 1872 in Dalkeith and in the Army from 1897, South Africa from 1899 till 1903, but where did he go after that?
He is related through his grandmother to the WIGHTMAN family , and ultimately to the Hopper family mainly in the Greenlaw area
his mother was Elizabeth Wightman Dickson, who married, in 1876, to a Daniel Pettie McLaren, after Ramsay was born in 1872.
I think Ramsay has a sister, living at Edinburgh Road in Dalkeith in 1909, i.e. when he was finally discharged from the Army Reserve.

Hi Squirejay

There is a family tree for his line which staes a death for him of 1953 in Perth Australia. I can see a death notice for a Ramsay McLean Dickson, but no additional details given https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/52933390

Also www.findagrave.com/memorial/213674774/ramsay-dickson

There is also this snippet here:

You could ask for help from the Australian board here on RC to try to enstablish any further details on him.

Could he have married under the name McLaren?

Name: Ramsay Mclaren
Marriage Place: Western Australia
Registration Place: Perth, Western Australia
Registration Year: 1929
Registration Number: 164

A nice photo of him included on the family tree I mentioned on a/try www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/113123956/person/160109550261/facts - as always, you need a subscription to view trees on a/try which I do not know if you have...

Thanks Monica,
I looked at the travel details but unable to find anything on FindMyPast, nor his war service.
Yes he did 7 years in Dragoons and 5 years in Army Reserves, 1897 to 1909.

Will try the Australian records as you advise

Much appreciated
