Wellington Archives Look up Please
« on: Wednesday 21 April 21 18:02 BST (UK) »
Hi
Can someone do two lookups in the Intention to Marry records please. Unfortunately I only know the year of marriage not a specific month so I don't know how easy that is. Are these recent records actually available???
1. Walter Frederick Selling and Ann Victoria Mckeown in 1932
2. George Albert Jowsey and Annie Elizabeth Stevenson 1947

Thank you in advance
KK

The marriage for Walter Frederick Selling just states 1932. Couldn't find a marriage for George Albert Jowsey, but he is on the Electoral Rolls with wife Annie Elizabeth. They were living at 253 Grange Road, Tauranga. It does give their chidren's names, but as they are probably still alive I would need to send you these via a PM if you would like them. Annie died in 1992 aged 76 years.

Hi

Thanks for the information. I don't need the children's names as I have them
Am hoping there is something in the Intentions to Marry but will wait and see.

Hi KK

What sort of information are you hoping to obtain from The "Intentions to Marry" records ??

Hi Lu

For these marriages I hope to find where they planned to marry and how long they resided at that location.

Hi KK

Unfortunately, as you probably already know, these ITM's are only indexed up until 1881 - after which you really need to know much more precisely, the area in which the couple were due to be married or eventually married in.    And unless you have the month of the marriage also, then it necessitates a search through all four quarters of the particular marriage year.  (Having the folio number from the the NZ Marriages microfiche index, can speed up the process slightly.)
[These notices are "housed" in weighty volumes with handwritten pages both sides, but facing opposite directions, so it's something of a "work out" looking through them. (You can probably tell that I've done such searches ?    ;D  )   And that may be the reason you've had no offers of a look-up to date?

I looked earlier for SELLING & McKEOWN on electoral rolls - Anne seemed still to be in Ngaruawahia  in 1931 following her first husband's death (- she ran a nursing home there).   But difficult to place just where Mr SELLING was around that time ??

Hi Lu
I didn't realise the process of finding them was so difficult. I certainly wouldn't want anyone to spend a lot of time looking. Thanks for telling me about the process. I am quite happy to let this request go.
If at any stage I can get hold of further information I can always revisit this query.

Regards
KK

Hi KK

Yes, it really only applies to the notices which have not been indexed ...  and of course after 1881 there were just so many more marriages ... (probably a reason they remain unindexed to this day.  ;D)

I will send you by PM the Folio numbers for the particular marriages you seek, so if any volunteers are able in the future, you can pass these numbers on.  [Using PM as one involves a 1947 marriage of which I can't put details here.]
