Have you tried looking for the children's birth registrations to find the mother's surname?

Yes that's the best way of getting a maiden name for Ann then you can look for a marriage complete with surname  :)

You don't say whether you have found them on the 1851 census?  If they had children at that time who were b Ireland - then they married in Ireland

Presume you have already checked freebmd for a marriage so if not found after you check GRO for mmn - then you need to look in Irish records

Son Dennis's birth reg is on freebmd

Hi

Yes i spent a good few hours searching on free bmd for a marriage of a john Crawley marriage to a ann

Could not find a marriage

Nor couldn't find them in the 1851 census

Looked at dennis Crawley birth in st pancras  , whitechapel

Found a Dennis Crawley a possibility  mother shay in the gro records

But only one other had the mother as shay

But could not find Dennis in 1851

Its hannah Crawley that i am interested in,
she married a waters, that is something i have found out

Regards Phil

This might help rule Shay out or otherwise

Abigail Crawley born Sep 1851 Saint Pancras has mothers name Shay

Hi

How about this scenario

Ann was possibly a Crawley from another marriage or when she was born a Crawley

So ann ??? Married a different Crawley  so would show as a Crawley when she married john as shown in 1861 but would show as the name she was actually born with on any children born as the mothers birth surname

I hope this sounds clear

Best wishes Phil

Have you found a Crawley/Crawley marriage or Crawley/Crawley children births?

Do we know if they had older children born elsewhere, married in Ireland perhaps.

But yes it is possible to have the same combination of surnames.
