John Sullivan/Honora Casey - Bantry early 1800s
« on: Monday 26 April 21 15:31 BST (UK) »
Hi

I have traced my GGGF and GGGM back to Bantry.

I have a marriage of John Sullivan to Honora Casey on 30 Jan 1854 in Bantry. Witnesses John Gibbons & Michael Kelly.

I also have a baptism of Honora Casey on 5 Oct 1834 in Bantry - to Joseph Casey & Margt. Cotter.

The next time I find them is 29.12.1854 in Southwark, London when I have a baptism of Mary Ann Sullivan to John and Honora (nee. Casey). Sponsors Eugene Sullivan and Mary Casey.

So sometime in 1854 they moved to London.

I have a death for Honora in Q1 1858 in Bermondsey, London.

John later goes on to remarry and I have him well documented from the 1861 census onwards.

My questions are.

Is there any way of tracing John Sullivan prior to 1854 as I don't know his father's name.

Secondly is there any chance that their travel to London would be documented? I know these journeys are considered domestic and that few if any records exist.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Do you not have his father's name of either of his marriages -- the one to Honora then his second marriage? You have details of his marriage to Honora - is the father's name not given?

If not, for that second marriage you could send for the marriage certificate.

Pennines you're absolutely right - I have been concentrating so much on the first marriage, which was a parish record and didn't have the father's name, that I had totally forgotten about the later one - I even have the necessary references.  ::)

Thanks for opening my eyes. Sometimes you get so locked into a particular thought that you miss the obvious. I will order the cert. asap.  ;D

Good -- Don't worry DB -- I've had SO many of those 'blank' moments -- too numerous to count!
