HP laptop stuck in automatic repair loop

Yesterday I was using my HP laptop when the cursor disappeared. I looked on my tablet for a solution and tried the suggested remedies which entailed pressing the FN key and function keys. That didn't work and I then went to Settings by using the keyboard.

While I was trying to solve the problem the computer told me it was trying to perform an automatic repair which didn't work. I tried the Restart option, the exit and continue to Windows 10 option, then the turn off your PC option. None of these worked.

I've Googled the problem, it seems to be quite common for the computer to be stuck in this loop. There are various solutions, some are a bit over my head and I'm nervous about doing anything complicated in case I make things worse.

Can anyone with the right knowledge of these things please advise me of the simplest and best solution?

You could try re-setting to a previous day.  Can't remember how to do it but I'm sure someone will let you know.

There's an option for that on the HP repair manager but I don't want to go ahead without knowing the implications.

Thanks Gadget, I think they're the solutions I'd found and thought they were a bit scary! 
I'm leaning towards the HP repair manager one, it resets the system to an earlier date without losing any files.

I've used it in the past and any work I"ve done on my family tree program etc has remained.

I've used that method in the past but not had any problems for a long while (touch wood - I'm on an HP laptop at the moment! )

It's running now, not sure how long it will take but  will let you know the result. Hope yours stays okay Gadget, I've fallen out with HP a bit lately! It did redeem itself with the printer so maybe I shouldn't be so harsh.
