D. H. Lawrence and Mr. Akers

Hubby came back with photos this morning after a trip to the cattle market and the crate he paid for is full of family history for the Akers family and his photos over time of D H Lawrence memorabilia. A postcard in there dated 1974 thanks Mr. Akers for the newsletter, so before I dive in to find out more, does anyone here have more knowledge about the group or Mr Akers who lived in Eastwood ?

Have googled but wanted to ask here first while I look.

Some of the photos are stamped with local history library P. L Nottingham so I would love to find out more, the family I can research as they kindly took a photo of the Akers grave which has the maiden name of their mother!

There is an Eastwood in Essex as well as Nottingham shire

If you've googled it you'll have seen that Garry (or Gary) M Akers was Secretary of the DH Lawrence Society.

It is Notts and yes it is a family in Eastwood; it was the cattle market at Meadow Lane he went to this morning which I should have said. I was very curious about the society as there are so many photos with reference to D. H. Lawrence and even a card about a memorial in Mexico.

There is a photograph of the chap, who is pictured with a lot of the memorabilia, next to the headstone for the family

Frances Daisy Akers (Jepson) born 1912 who married George Leonard Akers born 1911...married 1936 Basford reg.
Garry ans S* which is covered by the flowers he has laid.

Have the address for 'Gary' on the postcard and when Frances dies, certainly 3 children born in Notts and I found an acknowledgement online in google books. So sad that everything was jumbled up in the crate.
