Riddrie Cemetery
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 14:00 BST (UK) »
I'm spending an interesting afternoon going through papers and letters left to me by my granny and mother.
I think Granny made money buying up lairs, as I seem to have more than a few certificates for various cemeteries in Glasgow!!!
However, at the moment I am reading a letter that was sent to my granny in March 1947 (or it could read 1944 or 1949, the handwriting is difficult to decipher) from a lady called Lily, who gives her address as 44 Craigendmuir Street, Glasgow.
In this letter, she advises my Granny that her mother has pernicious anaemia and is only expected to live for a further week to ten days, so could my Granny please send her the titles deeds for the lair in Riddrie Cemetery, so she can be buried beside "mammy and the two children".
Lily also says that she will give my Granny what she had paid for the lair.

This is just so intriguing. Who was Lily? What was her surname? How could I find out if her mother was buried in Riddrie Cemetery?

If my Granny bought the lair, presumably the certificate would be held in her name, but it's not with the others I have discovered in the box.

My Granny's name was Mary Ann Fraser.
Researching the names Mckenzie / Mackenzie from Ross and Cromarty especially Scoraig and Rherivach.

The names Fraser, MacGillivary and Grant from Daviot & Dunlichity.

The name of Fraser from Lanarkshire.

The name of Bell from Northumberland.

The name Chilla / Chylla / Chyla from Poland.

Given your other posts mention McKenzies, there was:

Quote
. Murdoch McKenzie (17) Warehouseman. 44 Craigendmuir Street. Glasgow

in 1951.

A death for consideration:

MACKENZIE
LILY
54
1945
644/1 335
Shettleston

Although searching with other surname Mc/MacKenzie isn't returning same death.

I have just downloaded the marriage certificate for Murdoch and Lily, I shall have to do some further digging to tie one or other of them to my Granny - who incidentally was also a Mackenzie, before she married a Fraser.
Don't you just love a Sunday afternoon mystery ???

I have downloaded this death certificate, but unfortunately, it relates to a different Lily.
Thank you for trying though.

Lily McKenzie/MacKenzie is on the electoral registers at 44 Craigendmuir Street well after those dates. In 1954 a second Lily McKenzie is listed there. Did the younger Lily marry Wiliam MacLean in 1956?
Maybe it was Murdoch's wife Lily who wrote the letter (if it actually was from a McKenzie!) Who was her mother?
