Buckinghamshire Parish Registers
« on: Thursday 06 May 21 17:01 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to get some scans of Buckinghamshire Parish Registers, particularly for Tingewick and Gawcott.

Originally I wrote to the Buckinghamshire Archives. They replied:

"Thank you for your emails of 1st and 5th May regarding family history copies.

I would need to direct you to the Buckinghamshire Family History Society as they have images on their database from records we do not hold. Their website is https://www.bucksfhs.org.uk/

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further assistance.

Yours Sincerely

So I wrote to Buckinghamshire FHS as instructed. And guess what, they replied:

"We do not hold scans of parish registers. They are available from Buckinghamshire Archives. Please contact archives@buckinghamshire.gov.uk

Regards

Tony Sargeant"

So from pillar to post and back again, still with no scans or any idea of how to get them. Not at all happy.

How the hell do you go about getting scans of Buckinghamshire Parish Registers?

I have no experience of Buckinghamshire Archives, but a look on their website it seems they only hold the Parish Registers on microfilm, including the Parishes you want.

https://archives.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/collections/parish

You will probably need to pay a researcher to look for the entries you want.

Hi

According to Genuki original copies of the parish registers for Holy Trinity, Gawcott have been deposited in the Buckinghamshire Record Office in Aylesbury with following dates

Event
Christenings & burials 1806 - 1967

Same information for Tingewick with following dates

Christenings, marriages & burials 1560 - 1910

Somewhere on the Buckingham Archives, Aylesbury there will be a list of charges and a form to fill in to request
Copies of individual entries from Parish Registers.

The problem is that I am still totally confused as to how and from whom I obtain copies of entries - not transcripts - of the relevant parish registers. I feel both Bucks Archives and Bucks FHS are being unhelpful. What I want are clear instructions, which both organisations seem either unable or unwilling to give.

I would be tempted to actually phone someone at the archives and talk to them about it.

Hi
Sesrching the Bucks record office on line catalogue

This is the registers they hold for Tingewick
https://archives.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/search/all:records/0_50/all/score_desc/Parish%20registers%20tingewick

This is for Gorcott

https://archives.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/search/all:records/0_50/all/score_desc/Parish%20registers%20Gawcott

So there is no doubt they hold the registers.

Unfortunately MK Central Library, which houses the Family History department, is currently in use as a Covid testing centre, and is closed as a library. Printing and photocopying are two of the activities listed as not available at the moment. Which is a pain.
