1891 Census - Lillian Holland
« on: Saturday 08 May 21 13:40 BST (UK) »
Hi

I was wondering if someone could look for a Lillian Holland living in Keelby in the 1891 census. I believe she may have been a servant.

Sorry that's all I have at the moment.

Many thanks.

Welcome to rootschat

You don't say when or where she was born.  There is a Lilian Holland bn Keelby c1883 living with her parents Henry & Anne in 1891 but obviously too young to be a servant.

Welcome to Rootschat !

This baptism  fits with Rosie99`s find.

https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/581897f7e93790ec8bc227ea/lilian-holland-baptism-lincolnshire-keelby-1882-08-29?locale=en

Family Search has a marriage in 1878 Henry Holland to 1 of 3 listed possible spouse , one of which is Anne Jallands. in Glanford Brigg reg. dis. Taking into acount birth place on censu of  his daughter Sarah at Barnetby could be likely.

Perhaps AbboQPD could give a few more details.

Not a servant but a scholar in 1891.

Sister Sarah is a domestic servant.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies. I'm trying to prove the unprovable, but it's still fun trying.
When I said that's all I've got, I meant with regards to where she was living in 1891.
Here's what else I know. Lillian Holland was my great grandmother and is the daughter of Henry and Anne Jallands. She gave birth to my grandmother Constance Annie Holland in 1900. My late father had told me that Constances father was not known. I resigned myself to never knowing who the father was.
However, I then received the birth certificate for Constance and Lillian had added another middle name which made no sense. She's is recorded on the birth certificate as Constance Annie THOMPSON Holland. Nowhere else in family tree does the name Thompson appear. My father had also told me about an elderly well dressed gentleman who used to visit my widowed grandmother on a weekly basis to bring food and give her money.
There was also a suggestion that Lillian once worked as a servant at a manor house in Keelby. Whilst I can't find a connection to a Thompson family for the manor house, I have found a couple of long-standing farming families in Keelby.
My over active imagination has decided a Lord of the manor got my great grandmother pregnant and is the father of Constance.
Sorry for the long post but just thought I'd explain why I was making the initial enquiry.

A quick look at the 1901 census using only the name Thompson, a male, living at Keelby gives 13 results. The only one who would maybe classed as elderly was one born in 1825 at Keelby.

Then there`s also the possibility that he lived further afield, or the elderly man could have been giving the food and money on behalf of someone else!!

Unfortunately, you may never get to the truth !! Sorry!

There are a couple of Thompson families on page 13 of the 1901 census for Keelby....so it was not an unknown name in the area. One of the families has 2 single sons, but both much older than your Lilian. Charles aged 40 and George aged 37 both carpenters, incidentely their mother was called Annie.

Thanks for your comments...

Larkspur, could you find Lilian in the 1901 census?

I know this is all speculation and I'll never prove anything, but it's intriguing none the less.
