Wordley 1600s - Glemsford
« on: Saturday 08 May 21 18:37 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I have Roger Wordley, b. 1640 in Glemsford to George Wordley and Alice.  I can find no other children.

There is a marriage of a Georgius Wordley to a Margaretam Symondes on 12 October 1624.  There are several children baptised to them:

Elizabetha 1628
Margeria 1631
Radus. 1633
Georgius 1636

The timing would fit for George to have married a second time.  If anyone can find a death for Margaret, or a marriage for George to an Alice, I'd be most grateful.

Many thanks,
Emma

Hi Emma,

I don't have a lot of info for you, but the following may help, (if you haven't already seen them);

Glemsford St.Mary;
Burials;

7-9-1705   ? (wife)  Wordly  w/o Roger
28-4-1701 George     "
13-7-1739     "           "
31-5-1742     "           "          senr
26-5-1680 Margaret   "           d/o Roger
12-11-1633    "         Wordlye    "   George & Margaret

These are taken from the Suffolk FHS burial CD and I should add there are a lot of entries for Wordly + variants in the Glemsford area.

Hi Alan,

Thank you for taking the time to look for me. Certainly some new information there.

I've had a look at some other people's trees (dangerous, I know) and have seen that Margaret Symondes had a sister Alice. Wondering whether she could be a candidate for a second marriage... Time will tell, perhaps!

Thank you again.

I suppose you've seen this? There's a will of Roger Wordly of Glemsford, 1720.

Also John Wordly, 1684, of Hartest, just a mile or two away.
